Immediate ceasefire in Gaza, declare Israel a war criminal: India did not vote in UN

A resolution was introduced in the UN Human Rights Council on Friday in protest against the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza, which voted to call for an immediate ceasefire and declare Israel a war criminal. However, 13 countries including India did not participate in the voting. The resolution demanded that Israel be held accountable for possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

A total of 28 countries voted in favor of the resolution on the deteriorating human rights situation in the Gaza Strip, while a total of six countries, including the United States and Germany, voted against the resolution. 13 countries including India did not participate in the voting. The countries that voted in favor of the resolution blamed Western countries supplying arms to Israel for this chaotic situation.

The proposed resolution called for an arms embargo on Israel and said that all countries should immediately ban the sale and transfer of weapons and other military equipment to Israel to prevent violations of international humanitarian law and human rights violations. The resolution also demanded that Israel immediately lift its illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip. The conference adopted a draft resolution on the human rights situation and accountability and responsibility for delivering justice in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, with 28 votes in favour.

Which country voted for whom?

During the voting on the resolution, 13 countries including India, France, Netherlands and Romania abstained. Voting against the resolution were Argentina, Bulgaria, Germany and the United States. The countries that voted in favor of the resolution include Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
