Zardari met Army Chief, termed allegations of political parties on Army as baseless

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed concern over baseless allegations leveled against the army by political parties and their workers. On Wednesday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir met the President. During the visit, General Asim Munir targeted jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In the meeting, the Army Chief congratulated Zardari on becoming the 14th President. A statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that President Zardari expressed concern over the baseless allegations made by political parties and their workers. He has resolved to meet such elements.
Zardari was apparently referring to the continuous attacks on Pakistan by Imran Khan and his party after his ouster from power in April 2022. In this meeting, the COAS informed the President about the army’s operations against terrorism. He also briefed the President about the Army’s contribution to development initiatives, especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan regions.
President Zardari has said that the participation of the army is important in protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. He also appreciated the efforts of the Army for social upliftment of some affected areas. Zardari stressed Pakistan’s strong commitment against terrorism.
