The first solar eclipse of the year is going to occur on 8 April 2024 i.e. today. This astronomical event occurring today will be visible only in Western Europe, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, Mexico, North America, Canada, Central America, northern parts of South America, England and northwestern areas of Ireland. According to Indian Standard Time (IST), the total solar eclipse will begin at 9:12 pm on April 8 and end at 2:22 am on April 9. There will be darkness in America for about four minutes.

Specifically, there may be two to five solar eclipses per year in the world but a total eclipse occurs only once every 18 months. This time the total solar eclipse will cross North America via Mexico, United States and Canada.
